Due to sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits, many individuals face digestive issues. In today’s world, there’s a higher prevalence of gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease, GERD and other gastrointestinal issues. These issues can lead to acidity, malabsorption, constipation and/or diarrhea. This affects an individuals’ quality of life.
Though there are many treatments like medications, yoga is an immensely beneficial tool to managing digestive issues. Unhealthy eating habits tend to weaken an individual’s digestive power (Jaṭhara Agni). Focusing on the right asanas can provide great relief over a course of time. Parivṛtti Āsana-s along with the right component of breath is practiced to stimulate the Jaṭhara Agni (digestive fire). Another main cause for digestive issues like bloating and abdominal pain are stress and high cortisol levels. Practicing the right Prānāyāma like Śītalī Prānāyāma can reduce one’s stress and hence improving digestion.
